    DRIVING ASSISTANT.

The Driving Assistant safety equipment combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and Approach control and Person warning with light city braking function.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the indicator has been activated.
Whereas the Approach control warning with light city braking function identifies vehicles, the Person warning with light city braking function recognizes pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach control warning is activated. First a warning symbol appears, which begins to flash in the next stage, and then an acoustic signal sounds. If the driver still does not react, at speeds of up to 60 km/h the system begins to brake by itself. At speeds of approximately 20-25 km/h, Person warning helps to prevent accidents with pedestrians, and at speeds of up to 60 km/h, it reduces the severity of the accident. If the system needs to intervene, it preconditions the brakes for faster responsiveness and begins braking if necessary. The Attentiveness assistant monitors the driver's behaviour for signs of fatigue. When it detects any abnormalities, a suggestion to take a break is shown in the Control Display.

ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP&GO FUNCTION.

Active cruise control with Stop&Go function, incl. radar-based approach control warning with full and targeted braking offers the option of greater comfort and safety in traffic jams. The system maintains a speed preselected by the driver, as well as the distance to the driver ahead. The vehicle takes over accelerating and braking and keeps the predetermined distance to the car ahead even in slow-moving traffic and down to a stand-still in traffic jams. If the car approaches the vehicle ahead of it, or if another vehicle enters the lane, the system precisely adjusts the speed to take the other vehicle into account. It can be activated at speeds of up to 210 km/h.
The Stop&Go function not only automatically regulates speed down to standstill, it also automatically accelerates back up to the desired speed within a limited time frame as soon as traffic flow allows.
If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the BMW responds immediately when the approach control warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins blinking and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are applied.

    PARKING ASSISTANT.

The Parking assistant makes parking parallel and perpendicular to the road easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces – even tight parallel parking spaces – while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals.
As the car slowly approaches an obstacle, the Parking assistant is automatically activated via the function "Auto PDC" (Automatic Park Distance Control). The system's enhanced functionality includes supporting the driver when parking in spaces that are perpendicular to the road. The PDC also emits a warning signal if the car becomes too close to obstacles.
When parking without Parking assistant, the Lateral parking aid uses additional sensors to monitor the areas to the sides of the car and represent obstacles on the Control Display. So the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.

    SPEED LIMIT INFO.

Safety first: Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator shows the current speed limit in the instrument cluster, as well as information regarding no-overtaking zones. This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster. A camera integrated in the rear-view mirror detects relevant traffic signs. A control unit then processes and displays this information together with data from the navigation system. By utilising other features in the car, even variable speed limits – such as those that apply during wet conditions or at certain times of day – can sometimes also be shown.

    BACKUP CAMERA.

The backup camera allows the driver to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The backup camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 15 km/h, for example when parking.
The guidelines and coloured obstacle markings that appear in the Control Display show the driver if the selected parking spot is big enough to accommodate the car – which makes parking easier. When the steering wheel is at full lock, the system displays red turning circle lines and green guide lines that adapt to the steering wheel movements.
The backup camera is automatically deactivated after ten metres or when the speed exceeds 15 km/h. In conjunction with the trailer tow hitch, the rear view camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier thanks to a practical zoom function.

    HIGH-BEAM ASSISTANT.

The High-beam assistant supports driving in the dark by automatically adjusting the headlights in response to oncoming traffic or vehicles up ahead, which also avoids dazzling other road users.
Where there is sufficient street lighting it responds by dipping the lights automatically. A camera located near the interior mirror detects the headlights of other vehicles at a distance of up to 700 metres. The rear lights of vehicles ahead are detected at a distance of 400 metres. When an oncoming vehicle approaches or the rear lights of a vehicle in front are detected, the system automatically switches to low-beam before returning to high-beam when the road is clear. This allows he driver to leave the lights permanently on high-beam to ensure the utmost in safety and comfort when driving in the dark.
