The Remote Control Parking assistance system enables your BMW to do the parking for you. After you’ve already got out of the vehicle, it parks itself by moving forward into, or reversing out of, a tight parking space or garage. You simply press the BMW display key to activate the remote-controlled parking function from outside the vehicle. The entire parking procedure is monitored by Park Distance Control (PDC), the Parking assistant and the Surround View sensors. In order to use the remote-controlled parking function, the vehicle has to be straight and centered, facing the parking space or garage. During the parking procedure the driver can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if necessary. Once parked, the engine can be switched off via the key. And when it's time to move on, the engine can also be restarted via the key. During remote-controlled pulling out of a parking space, the vehicle automatically reverses in a straight line.

Surround View includes the camera-based functions Rear view camera, Panorama View, Top View and 3D View. The cameras in the exterior mirrors as well as at the front and rear of the vehicle allow for a 360° all-around view. In addition to the simple depiction of the driving space to the rear, Top View offers the driver a look over the door and the lane area to the car sides for more convenient manoeuvring. In 3D View, a computer generated 3D view is shown simultaneously, for an even better overview when parking. Panorama View makes navigating in areas with low visibility, such as driveways or confusing intersections, safer. A digital camera at the front centre of the car captures the traffic situation in front of the vehicle. This enables early detection of oncoming traffic so that the driver can react appropriately. The Side View function is automatically deactivated when the car reaches 15 km/h. The driver can switch between the three functions Top View, Panorama View and 3D View. The last selected function will be automatically reactivated when the system is next used. The camera systems are activated when the car is put into reverse or the PDC button or Panorama View button is pressed. The images captured by the cameras are shown on the Control Display. Parking and manoeuvring in confined spaces are made easy for you. Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear uses ultrasound to measure the distance to any obstacles that may be present, warns you acoustically and shows how far any obstacles are away in the Control Display . The system switches on below a distance of 80 cm when the vehicle is moving and below 30 cm when stationary.

    PARKING ASSISTANT.

The Parking assistant including linear guidance parks the vehicle completely automatically, parallel or perpendicular to the street. The system works by measuring potential spaces while driving past them at a low speed. If the driver parks manually without the help of the Parking assistant, Active Park Distance Control (PDC) offers additional protection against damage with the Lateral parking aid.

Lean back and let your BMW handle the road. The Traffic jam assistant takes away the strain when you’re in monotonous situations on the motorway in Europe and the USA. When you’re travelling in heavy traffic at speeds of up to 60 km/h, the system allows you to “float along” with the other traffic and stay relaxed as you pass through the congestion. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle in front, regulates your speed independently – even braking down to a standstill – and actively shares the steering. Your vehicle is thus able to help you stay in lane, as long as you keep at least one hand on the steering wheel.

The Steering and lane control assistant incl. Traffic jam assistant can be activated to support the driver in monotonous traffic situations. Between 0 and 210 km/h the system steers the vehicle automatically and always keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane. The cutting-edge steering function uses multiple area surveillance radar systems and a stereo camera. The system positions itself using the edge-of-lane markers and the vehicle in front, if applicable. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle ahead and regulates the car's speed down to a standstill, as well as providing active steering support. The Steering and lane control assistant represents another milestone on the path to achieving highly automated driving. Although the system is capable of driving the vehicle independently, the driver is still legally required to continue driving with both hands on the wheel. If the driver does not comply with this requirement, the system sensors will recognize this fact and warn the driver acoustically after a certain period of time. Then it will enter stand-by mode. This is also the case if the indicator is activated for changing lanes or if the system requirements are no longer met, e.g. the lane is too narrow.

Reacts precisely to every hazard: In a critical situation, Active Protection initiates measures to protect you such as tightening the seat belts, placing the seats upright and closing the windows and sunroof. After an accident, automatic braking can bring the vehicle to a standstill, thus preventing or reducing the likelihood of follow-on collisions. In addition, the Attentiveness assistant recommends breaks whenever there are any symptoms of fatigue to prevent hazards arising in the first place.

Stay on course. The Lane Departure Warning including camera-based Collision Warning registers lane markings at a distance of 50 metres and beyond a speed of roughly 70 km/h. As soon as you drive over the lane markings at the left and right without activating your indicators, the camera-based system warns you by gently vibrating the steering wheel. Camera-based Collision Warning detects vehicles ahead and warns you if the gap ahead becomes too short or if there is a looming risk of collision. You can then react in time and avoid accidents.

Your BMW looks out for you. When another vehicle is approaching at high speed from behind or is in your blind spot, the Lane Change Warning helps to appraise the situation correctly. If there is already a vehicle in the neighbouring lane, radar sensors warn you by means of a symbol in the exterior mirror. If you then operate the indicator, the steering wheel vibrates and the symbol flashes up.

Driving Assistant combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and Collision Warning. The Approach and Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation warns of collisions with vehicles or pedestrians at speeds of between 10 and 60 km/h and brakes in an emergency. Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and issues a warning by vibrating the steering wheel whenever there is a threat of leaving the lane unintentionally at speeds above approx. 70 km/h. If the indicator is activated, meaning that a change of lane is intended, no warning is given. In addition to Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning, Driving Assistant Plus also contains Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go Functions and the Traffic jam assistant, which takes charge of the distance from the vehicle ahead and steering up to a speed of 60 km/h, thus increasing driving safety and comfort.

    ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WITH STOP&GO.

Keeps a safe distance, so you can relax. Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go including radar-based approach control warning with Brake Activation provides you with effective support at all times. Radar sensors permanently scan the carriageway, adapting your speed and maintaining your distance from the vehicle ahead. When the road is clear again, the system accelerates automatically. And, thanks to approach control warning, you can enjoy a safe drive in any situation – even when Cruise Control is not currently activated. If the vehicle brakes sharply, it first warns you with an optical and then an acoustic signal. If you do not respond by braking, your BMW will react and brakes for you.

A revolution in safe driving at night: BMW Night Vision with Dynamic Light Spot makes people and larger animals in the dark recognisable in thermal imaging – even at a significant distance – and illuminates them selectively. As a result, you get a particularly clear view of everything that you shouldn’t miss at night. Should a critical situation arise, a warning is shown in the display and in the BMW Head-Up Display . In the event of acute danger, a blinking red symbol (animal or person) is displayed. An acoustic warning is also heard and the brakes are primed for optimum responsiveness.

More light means more safety. The High-Beam Assistant automatically takes care of raising and dipping the beam when you’re driving your BMW at night. The camera installed close to the interior mirror monitors the traffic situation and reacts immediately to any light sources at distances of up to 1,000 metres away. Depending on the visibility, the system decides when the headlights should be switched to high beam.
